With more covered bridges than any other place on the West Coast, Oregon offers history buffs, photographers and sightseers a look at a well-preserved past in the beautiful setting of the Northwest. Lane County alone has 20 covered bridges dating back as early as 1920, and many are listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Fourteen are still open to traffic. Maps and guides, available at area visitor centers, make these treasured landmarks easy to find.
A special designated Cottage Grove Covered Bridge Tour Loop (pdf) provides both motorists and bicyclists’ access to the largest concentration of bridges in the County. Just minutes from Eugene, is the community of Lowell, which offers a spectacular gateway for the Cascade Highway 58 Covered Bridge Loop.
Whether you decide to drive through, picnic beside, or sit on the riverbank and dangle your toes in the refreshing waters beneath, Lane County's covered bridges offer the perfect excuse to take a break from the fast lane.
